I am a Certified Holistic Cancer Practitioner and the decision to specialize in this field became urgent for me for a few different reasons. As a practicing nutritionist with a degree in Applied Human Nutrition and a Diploma in Holistic Nutrition, I would hear time and time again from the medical profession that “what you eat and do doesn’t matter” when it comes to cancer. How could this message be out there? The expression of your genes depends on the foods you eat among other very important lifestyle factors. Your diet matters. Food quality matters. Meal timing matters. Micronutrients and minerals matter. The type of water you drink matters. Electromagnetic exposure matters. Chemical load matters. Stress level and sleep pattern matter. You may be predisposed to certain conditions and that’s your loaded gun, but your lifestyle and diet in most cases pulls the trigger.
Today’s toxic exposure the body has to deal with every single day isn’t what it was 50 years ago. From a holistic point of view, cancer isn’t a localized disease that spreads but a systemic disease that localizes. Rebalancing physiologic function is key in a holistic approach. I have clients who firmly believe that their faith in God healed them of cancer. It so happens that the belief that you are healed changes biological markers in the body. This can be measured in your saliva, blood, and urine and these biological markers have an influence on the body’s ability to heal. A Holistic Cancer Practitioner does not cure or treat cancer and the reason why we do not have “success rates”. We simply facilitate and support the body’s organ function. One area the body requires support due to the increasing toxic load from our diet and chemical exposure is in “drainage and detoxification”. These processes help neutralize and remove toxic compounds from the body by opening your elimination organs and discharging the toxic accumulations.
Conventional treatments (chemo, radiation, surgery) are extremely hard on the body and a large percentage of people will succumb to treatments and not cancer. Involving a holistic approach along with these treatments can only improve your odds, ease symptoms associated with treatments, rebuild the immune system after treatments, reduce debilitating fatigue, preserve muscle mass to name a few. No evidence of disease does not mean “cure” after chemo and radiation are over. Tests used to detect cancer simply mean it didn’t detect anything. A one-centimeter tumor size represents approximately 1billion cancer cells and many tests do not detect smaller size tumors. Chemo drugs and radiation damages the DNA of healthy cells and in itself causes cancer. It is recommended, from a holistic point of view, to follow anti-cancer principles as your new lifestyle.
