BABY BOOMERS – HEALTH PREDICTIONS!

Many Canadians and Americans reaching sixty-five today have an average life expectancy of an additional two decades. An estimated 40 percent of sixty-five-years-old is likely to reach age ninety. But here’s the bad news: Cognitive decline start as early as age twenty-four…. yes, you read correctly…. and amyloid plaque deposits found in Alzheimer’s disease can start three decades before any symptoms are noticeable. The incidence of Alzheimer’s in people less than sixty-five is growing at an alarming rate. Modern medicine has succeeded in increasing our lifespan…but all medical breakthroughs so far for brain health has failed in reversing the decline. So what’s the point in increasing lifespan if you no longer have a healthy mind? Currently, 50% of nursing home residents suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and with the millions of baby boomers reaching sixty-five years of age, what is in store for them?

From a holistic point of view, we are taught that in order to achieve optimal brain health: • Food choices matter • When you eat matters • How much you eat matters • Sleep hygiene matters • Stress matters • Taking specific supplements matter • Diagnosed diseases matter (Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, depression, anxiety). • Medication taken matters (statins, sleeping pills, anti-depression) • Frequency of infections matter • Exercise matters

All of the above points have an impact on “brain health”. Diseases of the brain are expected to increase at an alarming rate over the next 30 years and there ARE many changes you can do today to protect your brain from reaching a dreadful diagnosis.

Small changes, small results! Massive changes, massive results! I’ve developed a program specifically for brain health both as prevention and active nutritional/supplemental therapy for cognitive impairment. For those with noticeable signs, the sooner changes are implemented the greater the chances of slowing down and even reversing symptoms. Bringing the brain back by 10% can mean the difference between not able to do activities of daily living AND being able to care for yourself. I will post another testimonial in my next post from the son of an 84-year old client (woman) with early to moderate onset Alzheimer’s disease and her journey since starting this program.
