Physiology prevails over pathology. If we can correct any physiology imbalances, we can correct any pathology. Pathology happens when there’s either a “disorder of overload” OR a “disorder of deficiency”. Overload disorders are due primarily to accidental intoxication from toxic foods and environmental pollutants, such as pesticides, heavy metals, etc. For example, the Alzheimer’s brain, upon autopsy, usually has high levels of aluminum. And when you are “lead toxic” you are usually Zinc deficient. Over 70 enzymatic reactions are dependent on Zinc and at the same time, Copper will compete for the same enzymatic reaction. If you have an overload of Copper, you will be Zinc deficient and symptoms will appear in the form of:

• Loss sense of smell, vision, taste • Wounds take a long time to heal • Bruise easily • Always sick (colds) • Male-specific disorders

Taking an over-the-counter Zinc Citrate, for example, will not be absorbed very well and probably cause an overload creating other imbalances. An “ION FORM” is needed.

Here’s a classic example of how an oligo-element is at the root cause of anemia, a condition causing extreme fatigue. Iron is often recommended when blood tests show low Iron. If you take Iron supplementation for more than 4-months with no results, iron isn’t the problem. You are more than likely copper deficient. Why? Because copper is needed in the enzymatic reaction needed to put iron inside the hemoglobin where it will rebalance the deficiency. Without the proper ion form of Copper, Iron isn’t able to go where it’s needed.

Another example where pathology exists is when someone suffers from spasms and cramps. This can either be during an asthma attack, menstrual cramping, hiatal hernia, nerve pain or leg cramps. In many of these cases, Magnesium is deficient because this oligo-element is needed for the proper functioning of soft tissues, muscular contraction, nerve impulses, blood viscosity, enzymatic systems, insulin regulation, estrogen and thyroid hormone metabolisms….to name a few. But taking a Magnesium supplement of any kind won’t work as most sold on the market are not in the right form. And on top of that, if you are taking an antacid (Tums, Rolaids, Pariet, Nexium, etc.) you are not absorbing calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc B1, B6, B12, and folate.

Oligo-therapy is a very powerful approach when it is used with accuracy, with a sound diet and according to your overall history, medication taken and existing conditions…and they are even more effective when paired with drainage protocols. They will rebalance the physiology and go to the root cause of your symptoms and pathology. Returning what’s missing and removing the irritants will bring you back to health. The examples above are only a few to explain that you can regain your health with the help of a competent Orthomolecular Health Practitioner.
